Returning Orphaned and Injured Black Bear Cubs to the Wild

As a native of Maryville, Tennessee and an animal lover, I was thrilled to join the board of the Appalachian Bear Rescue in 2012.

Our annual fall fundraiser, “Bear Necessities: Bearly Edibles & Auction,” is coming up Friday, Sept. 13 at the Barn Event Center in Townsend, Tenn. Last year’s event was a tremendous success. More than 200 people were in attendance and enjoyed wine and appetizers while bidding on auction items (which included everything from sports and movie tickets to fine art).

The event is a great way to help the organization raise money to care for orphaned and injured black bear cubs, like the three cubs recently found on the side of the road in South Carolina. We garnered international media coverage for these three cubs, including this story on The Today Show’s website.
